't bluk route
De tweede geocache route die ik aan het doen ben/was is ' Bluk. Deze ligt vlak bij de aardjesbergen route. Het gebied daar is veel mooier dan je zou verwachten zo vlak bij huis. De eerste keer dat ik deze route liep is Mike meegegaan. Hij heeft alle foto's gemaakt en ze zijn hier te bewonderen. Die dag hebben we de cache niet gevonden, dus gisteren heb ik de route nog een keer gelopen, dit keer in mijn eentje, foto's van het gebied zijn hier.
Nu komen we tegelijkertijd op een wat vreemde vraag, kijk eens goed naar dit rund:
Wat voor een rund is het? Een goede vriend die de foto's zag riep meteen dat het een schotse hooglander is. Echter het rode rund hier met de horens is een schotse hooglander. Ik kom op het web ook veel informatie tegen over het zogenaamde calloway rund, dat ook hier in de omgeving is uitgezet. Er is nog geen uitslag over wat de runderen nu werkelijk zijn.
Maar we zoeken verder.
Ik ben premium lid geworden van geocaching. Het kost 3 euro per maand en dat geeft wat leuke extra eigenschappen zoals het kunnen downloaden van gpx files en het laten uitvoeren van pocketqueries. Als je geocachen leuk vindt kan ik het je zeker aanraden.

slow day
As it's getting closer to Xmas the kids are on holiday and my ears are still not really 100%. They are inproving though, so that is good. So what do you do on slow days?
The kids webpages
They have been asking for this several times, they want a webpage. Joy already started one with a friend but she wanted one of her own. So I made joy.familie-smits.net and mike.familie-smits.net. Joy has been busy most of the day playing with NVU to make her dreampage. Wear sunglasses when you visit, you will go blind.
Mike is too busy with a game.
Reading
Some time ago I started the EAP book "Java Persistence with Hibernate" The complete book is available now, so I am reading that at the moment. It is quite interesting to see where this will lead. The java and the JEE world are moving faster then ever. Proving a big issue I have with that again and again.
I think that that world is moving too fast. A technology does not get the chance to prove how good, or not, it really is. If something does not perform as wanted or more importantly as expected it gets thrown away and the next buzz comes along.
The book itself is very good. Although the writers Bauer and King have a strong affiliation with JBoss, they describe in clear language and with good examples what can be achieved. I tend to agree with them that EJB3, very likely together with JBoss and Hibernate, will be here to stay. I just hope the bad taste EJB2 has created can be overcome as we need a good standard.
At the same time I am reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The adventures of Sherlock Holmes". you can find and download the book at Project Gutenberg. I converted the html to a mobidoc format. That way I can read it on the pda.There is a plucker link too. But the reader for plucker documents on a pocket pc is bad. Alas I might add, I really like plucker together with the sunrise desktop. It would be great if mobipocket would be able to read plucker documents.
